SAOAO Update: Congratulations on the match!

I would like to congratulate all our fourth year members who have matched into orthopedics this past February. Seeing all your hard work and dedication pay off is truly inspiring. I also would like to thank all the Program Directors and Residents who came and supported our SAOAO conference in Washington, DC Their neverending encouragement and guidance to becoming orthopedic surgeons one day is priceless to our success.

Attendance at the 2016 Annual Meeting was a huge success with members from all over the country coming together to learn about the ACGME merger and various orthopedic programs across the nation. Given the number of students in attendance in comparison to our spring conferences, the SAOAO board has decided to hold elections during the Annual Meeting in the fall in order to give more students the opportunity to run for a national position, and so our elected board will have a better representation of our total members.

At this SAOAO Spring Conference, we will be filling the Conference Chair, Treasurer, Education Chair and Secretary positions. The vacancies are due to the fourth year students who will be leaving us and continuing their orthopedic journey.

Currently, we are busy working on the SAOAO Spring Conference schedule, which will be held during the 57th Postgraduate Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee on April 28-30, 2017. Please put it on your calendar and plan to attend. We will continue to have our Program Director Panel as well as Resident mentoring sessions. Students will also have an opportunity to attend a sawbones workshop with Depuy Synthes.

I look forward to seeing you in Nashville and good luck with your studies.
