Editor's Note

Dr. ArmbrusterBy Edward J. Armbruster, DO, FAOAO
Orthopod Editor

I am pleased to present the latest edition of the Orthopod for your review!
This issue includes a message from our President, Dr. Steven Heithoff, in which he provides an update on the AOA marketing campaign.  In addition, he details the AOAO’s position on the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) and how both of these items affect our practice as Osteopathic Orthopaedic Surgeons.

This issue also highlights updates from the Residents and Fellows Committee, Shoulder and Elbow and Pediatric Sections.  Information is provided regarding the activities of these groups and what you can expect to see at our upcoming mid-year meeting in Nashville.

The AOAO Foundation has also been quite active by establishing two scholarships for Osteopathic Orthopedic Surgery Residents and considering the development of an online, virtual library.  The virtual library would be available to AOAO members, full active and Resident alike, providing access to our discipline’s critical journals and texts, all in one location.  I for one am very excited to see this monumental undertaking develop and progress for the benefit of our membership.

Lastly, we present some of the latest Osteopathic Orthopaedic research.  These studies and case reports have been selected because of their quality and their applicability to our daily practice of musculoskeletal care.
Thank you for taking the time to stay connected with your organization.  But don’t just read, become active and participate.  The strength of this publication and organization is fostered by its membership and member-leaders who are dedicated to leading our profession into the future.
