New at the Annual Meeting: Digital abstract presentations and the Osteopathic Recognition Award

2017 Annual Meeting, October 12-14 at the Sheraton Chicago

The Academy is now accepting abstract submissions from medical students, residents, and fellows and has developed two new opportunities.

Osteopathic Recognition Award for Residents and Fellows
This new award was developed by the executive office and the Residents and Fellows Committee and has received unanimous approval from the AOAO Board of Directors. It is designed to recognize outstanding research that also includes the tenets of osteopathic medicine. Only residents and fellows qualify for this award. The criteria for selection includes:

  1. Relevance to the principles of osteopathy, i.e. Body capable of self-regulation, self-healing and health maintenance, structure and function are inter-related, there is unity of mind body and spirit; and
  2. Relevance to patient treatment and potential to change clinical practice; and
  3. Originality of the work done.

The recipient will be selected by the Residents and Fellows Committee based on the criteria above and will be invited to present during the Residents and Fellows Session on Thursday, October 12 and will receive a monetary award of $900. If the recipient is able to present during this session, he or she will be reimbursed for coach airfare, one night in the hotel and a $75 stipend toward meals.

Digital Poster Session – Saturday, October 14, 2017
Accepted posters will be displayed on digital monitors in the registration area all day Thursday and Friday, October 12 and 13 at the Sheraton Chicago. On Saturday, there will be a special one hour session where the top scoring abstracts submitted by residents and fellows in all specialties will be selected to present their poster. Three of the top scoring student poster authors will also be invited to present. The presentation will take place on Saturday, October 14 from 12:30-1:30 pm. CME credit will be offered for those who attend this session.

All accepted abstracts and posters will be available for viewing in the Mobile Meeting Guide for the Annual Meeting. The viewing tab includes a digital poster discussion board, where you can post comments or questions to the lead author. All those attending the conference will be encouraged to participate in this discussion board.
