AOAO Foundation Mission
The AOAO Foundation was formed to promote the uniqueness of the osteopathic profession by providing financial support to osteopathic orthopedic endeavors for the advancement of the profession.

In keeping with our mission, the Foundation Board of Directors has been working on many projects, one of which is to provide scholarships to residents for outstanding research. Recently the AOAO Foundation was awarded a $5,000 grant by DonJoy Orthopedics to be disseminated to AOAO resident members who have an interest in sports medicine.

The grant will be divided into three significant awards.

$1,000 Sports Medicine Paper Award
Awarded to the resident whose scientific research paper in the category of sports medicine meets the following criteria.

  1. The selected resident will be the lead author on the paper
  2. The paper must have been submitted during the resident’s 2nd or 3rd training year
  3. The research paper will be determined to be original research and demonstrate clinical and/or basic science implications
  4. The research paper will be of a quality required for peer-reviewed orthopedic journals

The Sports Medicine Paper Award will be disbursed directly to the residency program’s orthopedic library.

Two $2,000 Travel Scholarships
Awarded to two resident authors who submit abstracts for presentation during the AOAO Annual Meeting in the sports medicine category who meet the following criteria.

The $2,000 scholarships will be used to reimburse the orthopedic resident for their actual conference registration, airfare/mileage, lodging and meals for their attendance at the 2016 Annual Meeting.
Submissions will be reviewed by the AOAO Foundation Board of Directors and recipients selected appropriately. If selections are made, award recipients will be announced during the Residents and Fellows Session on Thursday, October 15 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO. If no residents meet the above criteria, the AOAO Foundation Board may decide to defer a selection until the following year when new papers are submitted.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to acknowledge DonJoy Orthopedics as being the first corporate donor to the Foundation to support these awards.  The AOAO Foundation Board is currently planning future events to support further support our mission to enhance lifelong learning and patient care.  I will continue to keep you informed as these events develop.

We look forward to seeing you all in Colorado Springs.
