2013 Annual Awards Ceremony

The AOAO continues to see record breaking attendance at our educational programs and the 2013 Annual Meeting was no exception. A total of 741 attending physicians, residents, students, retired physicians, life members, allied health and even non-member physicians met at the Sheraton San Diego.

The conference provided participants with the latest information on the surgical topics of pediatric orthopedics, foot and ankle, spine, hand, trauma, adult reconstruction, and sports medicine, as well as on the topic of osteoporosis management.   For those physicians who prescribe ER/LA opioid analgesics, an additional educational session was made possible due to a grant from the AOA.  Other sessions were offered including one for the residents on leadership skills, and a session on teaching and evaluating residents for the Orthopedic Residency Program Directors.

Along with Thursday morning’s riveting Key Note address by Sgt. Matt Eversmann, one of the highlights of the Annual Meeting was Thursday night’s Awards Ceremony. Dr. James Pollifrone, outgoing President, recognized the recipients of the Bob Green DO Memorial Award, the Knotty Cane Award, the Appreciative Award, and the Don Siehl Appreciative Award.  Dr. Steven J. Heithoff presented The Morton J. Morris DO, JD Award for Osteopathic Orthopedic Education.  After the ceremony, the membership joined the award recipients in sharing some time and memories at the cocktail reception.
