SAOAO Update

Priyal BhagatPriyal V. Bhagat, OMS III
TouroCOM- Harlem, NY
National SAOAO President

The SAOAO would like to congratulate all the students that have matched into an Orthopedic Residency Program this year. Hard work and strong passion can only help you achieve success. A majority of the students that matched were members of the SAOAO. Many have attended conferences and utilized the benefits the organization has to offer. I urge any student interested in orthopedics to become a member and take advantage of the benefits the organization has to offer.

Over the past year, SAOAO has increased in size. We have started new chapters and our membership numbers have exponentially increased. Our conference planning is in full gear and we hope to bring an exciting and educational program to our members this year. The conference will take place on April 8-9 2016 at the beautiful Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix, AZ. Many residents, attendings, and program directors will be present for students to network and build strong connections.

Elections for a new National SAOAO executive board will also be taking place during this spring meeting. SAOAO members are encouraged to attend the conference and run for National Officer positions. New members are allowed to run for chair positions such as conference chair, communications/recruitment, education, historian/elections chair. Executive positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are available. Leadership in the field you are passionate about entering can only make you a stronger candidate for a competitive program. We hope to see many of our members, old and new, attend this spring meeting in Phoenix.

It has been a wonderful and pleasurable experience serving as President of SAOAO this past year. I would like to sincerely thank all the members for their support and passion to grow and help build a strong reputation for SAOAO. Thank you to the SAOAO Executive Board and chair members for coming together from all parts of the nation to build a stronger organization. The SAOAO would not be on this rapid growth without the full support of the AOAO Board members and the Association Manager, Joye Stewart. Lastly, I would like to thank the Program Directors and Residents that volunteer as mentors and attend our student conferences to give their valuable advice.
