SAOAO Update

From the National Board and myself, I would like to welcome all our new members to the SAOAO Family. The SAOAO has been growing and our branches are reaching out to the new Osteopathic schools. More and more students are getting involved in building a reputable name for SAOAO in their school. The exponential increase in competiveness in acquiring a residency in Orthopedics has only motivated our National Board to find ways to give an advantage to our members.

Being able to attend our conferences, held twice a year, with the AOAO is one of the most educational and helpful parts of being a member of SAOAO. The SAOAO recently held its Fall 2015 Conference at the beautiful Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, CO. Attendees were able to engage in a Q&A panel consisting of 10 AOAO Program Directors from around the Nation. Students engaged in a skills workshop consisting of suturing techniques on realistic suture pads and arthroscopic simulators. With the help of the RAOAO Residents, our speed mentoring event was a hit once again! We also had the pleasure of having renowned members of the AOAO Board come in and speak to us. Check out our recap video.

As the single accreditation system is in the works, all current and new members are curious as to what will happen in the future. We are in the planning process of creating a FAQs document for pertinent information to attain an Orthopedics residency once the single system has been established. The SAOAO will also be publishing its newsletter with interesting articles and helpful hints on landing a residency. Look out for a new logo competition that is in the works. Find latest news about SAOAO by following us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

I would like to thank the Resident AOAO and AOAO leadership. Nothing is possible without the unconditional support we get from them. The attendings and residents of AOAO play an integral part of helping build SAOAO to where it is now. A special thank you to the AOAO Executive Director Dr. Lee Vander Lugt; President, Dr. George Zimmerman; Vice President, Dr. Steven Heithoff and Association Manager, Joye Stewart, for advocating for the organization. Lastly, I thank all our members for showing their continued interest and involvement in SAOAO.
