RAOAO Update

As we transition from fall to winter in the Midwest, there is no doubt that this update finds each of your programs at a time of great change. The AOA merger with the ACGME is in full swing and many programs across the country are submitting their applications for the updated single accreditation system. Incorporation of AOA programs into the ACGME started on July 1, 2015, and is expected to be completed by July 2020.  Information for residents and program directors regarding the single accreditation system can be found at the ACGME website.

Though our time is already spread thin updating our Orthopedic knowledge, honing our operative skills, and preparing for board exams, we urge everyone to become involved with the merger process. There is no doubt that the resident involvement and commitment to this process will ultimately determine its success. Though we will have a new governing body in 2020, we are responsible for continuing to be true to our osteopathic roots. Please take pride in our osteopathic heritage throughout this process and be good stewards of the profession.

We are fresh off a successful Annual Meeting at The Broadmoor in Colorado where the RAOAO board meeting was held as part of the weekend festivities. We continued our strong relationship with the SAOAO which is an integral part of our organization. The SAOAO is the next generation of orthopedic residents and we feel that mentoring that group will ensure the continued flow of quality candidates into all of our programs. The students held a Q&A with program directors and another with residents and once again the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We hope to continue this tradition in the future.

Be sure to register for the upcoming AOAO 56th Postgraduate Seminar.  It will take place April 8-10, 2016 at the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.  Be on the lookout for other educational opportunities available to you as AOAO residents. Also, get a head start on posters, papers, and abstracts to submit to the annual meeting next fall. We had a great research day in Colorado and look forward to seeing many more quality projects in 2016.

We would like to hear more about accomplishments of our members and how we can better serve you. Please email us at raoao@aoao.org with any questions or suggestions.

Be outstanding,

Your RAOAO Officers,
Anthony Manocchio, DO – President
Christopher Johnson, DO – Vice President
Ryan Eschbaugh, DO – Secretary/Treasurer
