Didn’t Make the 54th Postgraduate Seminar? Here’s what you missed…

May 2-4, 2014 Omni Dallas Hotel

Networking
A total of 660 surgeons, residents, allied health practitioners and students from various parts of the country attended the 54th Postgraduate Seminar. One of the areas members seem to enjoy most about AOAO conferences is catching up with friends and colleagues.

Female Orthopedic Group
The Female Orthopedic Group met for breakfast on Saturday morning. Although it was an early start to their day, these ladies met to provide mentoring to residents and students and to discuss network. The FOG meets annually at each conference for breakfast on Saturday mornings.

An Excellent CME Program
The 54th Postgraduate Seminar provided 19 total AOA Category 1-A CME credits, and 17.5 total specialty credits in osteopathic orthopedic surgery. Academy conferences are the only source for osteopathic orthopedic surgery specialty credits as required by the AOA.  Over 87% of our conference participants felt the lectures they attended would affect their practice as new techniques and devices were discussed in nearly all areas of orthopedic surgery: adult reconstruction, trauma, sports medicine, pediatrics, spine, hand and shoulder and elbow.

Added Learning Opportunity
On Saturday evening, a Hand and Upper Extremity Cadaver Lab offered at the Bedford, Texas Elite Surgical and Orthopedic Surgery Center and was supported by Instratek Incorporated and Skeletal Dynamics. While no CME was offered, it was an excellent opportunity for small group hands-on learning.

Mobile App
The Academy continues to provide members with the latest in conference technology and this meeting was no exception. A conference mobile app offered a quick glance for mobile device users to view the lecture schedule, registrant list, exhibitors and their product descriptions, as well as the faculty and a quick link to the evaluation.

Conference Syllabus with Recorded Lectures
Lectures were recorded and are now available, from authorized speakers, online (member log in required). Members may listen to the lectures they missed, while simultaneously viewing the speaker’s slides.

Easy Online Evaluation
If it’s been a while since you attended a meeting, you will find the online evaluation form to be a quick and easy way to provide feedback to our CME Committee and to claim your CME. A special kiosk is available at the meeting, or you can access the link through the AOAO website or mobile app to complete the form in the comfort of your room.

Thank You Exhibitors
The Academy would not be able to provide many of the conference features without the support of our nearly 30 exhibitors. We also appreciate the commercial support provided by Biomet and Zimmer for this conference.

Golf Tournament
The Academy hosted a charity golf event on Friday, May 2 to benefit the AOAO Foundation. A total of 28 golfers played The TPC Las Colinas, Home of The Byron Nelson Championship. Nearly $500 was raised for the Foundation.

Plan now to attend the 55th Postgraduate Seminar, April 17-19, 2015 at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, Amelia Island Plantation, Florida.
