Review of the 53rd Postgraduate Seminar
Despite a few thunderstorms, the weather was beautiful for the 53rd Postgraduate Seminar, held this past May at the Loews Miami Beach. AOAO volunteer moderators developed quality sessions with lectures in all specialties including Hand, Shoulder and Elbow, Sports Medicine, Pediatrics, Adult Reconstructive and Arthritis Surgery, Spine and Trauma surgery. In addition, two general sessions were offered with topics ranging from hip fractures to the latest techniques in arthroplasty.
The 638 total registrants were comprised of actively practicing DO orthopedic surgeons, residents, students, life and retired members as well as allied health. Those interested in sports medicine were invited to participate in a special shoulder and knee lab held at the M.A.R.C. lab in Miami. The hands-on lab was sponsored by the Sports Medicine Section and the generosity of DePuy Synthes.
This was the first AOAO conference where lectures were audio recorded. These lectures, from authorized speakers, are available now online at http://www.aoao.org/meetings/postgraduate/2013/syllabus/ (member log in required).
The Academy would like to thank the nearly 30 exhibitors for their support. For a complete listing of exhibitors, go to http://www.aoao.org/exhibitors-postgrad-past.iphtml. We also appreciate the commercial support provided by Biomet, DePuy Synthes, and Zimmer.
