See You in San Diego!
By Steven D. Morton, DO, FAOAO
CME Committee Chair
It has been an incredible year here at the Academy. We have had record attendance at both the Postgraduate and Annual meetings in the past few years, and I see no reason why we won't see it again in San Diego. What can be better than sunny Southern California? Beaches, golf, sports and entertainment, incredible food - along with some spectacular orthopedic meetings. We have been accredited by the AOA to offer CME credit at our meetings for the next three years as we achieved a perfect score on this year’s audit of the 2012 Postgraduate Seminar in West Virginia. The Board of Directors and administrative office have been working on improvements to our website that will make it more user friendly and relevant, as well as to streamline the CME process. I certainly look forward to its unveiling.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of "Black Hawk Down", the Battle of Mogadishu. I am excited to hear our key note speaker, First Sergeant Matt Eversmann, who was immortalized in the epic film "Black Hawk Down" about his legendary leadership in battle. He will be bringing his lessons learned in battle and life as a motivational speaker to our Academy members on Thursday morning. Don’t miss it!
We have added three hours of CME on pain management and prevention of adverse outcomes, fulfilling requirements from the US Food and Drug Administration for prescribers of long-term opioids. There will also be special non-CME tracks for senior residents and for program directors and core faculty. Our Annual Banquet format has changed this year. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 4:30 pm on Thursday, honoring all award recipients including those receiving the Award of Fellow. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held marina side at the Sheraton San Diego. This will be a beautiful setting to mingle with the Award winners and offer congratulations. Be sure to sign up if you plan to attend.
Our Moderators have been hard at work to bring you the latest and greatest orthopedic surgery techniques and updates. If you are interested in volunteering to moderate a future session, join us for lunch on Friday, October 18 at 11:30 am in Room 518 to learn about current guidelines and tips for developing the session. If you would like to become more involved in other areas, please call the Academy and we will make every effort to meet your needs. I look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
