Looking Forward

Dr. MasonBy James S. Mason, DO, FAOAO

Greetings from Georgia.  I hope everyone is settling into a great summer.  As we look toward the fall I wanted to share some thoughts and updates from your Academy.  The first thought is to encourage everyone to enjoy and participate in our organization.

As Osteopathic Orthopedic Surgeons, we are a small but growing and important fraternity.  To remain healthy and vital, we must move forward in united fashion.  Please take the time to attend the Annual Meeting at the beautiful Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, CO.  Arrange to meet some old friends and mentors, participate in the educational opportunities, and experience some relaxation at one of America’s classic grand resorts.

Over the past few months the AOAO Board of Directors held a strategic planning retreat in March.  An updated Strategic Plan has been developed and implemented.  You can access the new Strategic Plan online. The AOAO/AAOS Liaison Committee has been re-activated.  After careful consideration, I sent a letter to Dr. Frederick Azar, President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), in an effort to collaborate on future endeavors.  The response has been mostly favorable and the AOAO/AAOS Liaison Committee will continue to strengthen that relationship.  We have also made some changes to the CME Committee and its structure in planning future meetings.  The changes were made to increase member input and to have the content completed further in advance.  This is being done in hope of engaging more of the membership, as well as allowing for better preparation for and recruitment of industry grants.

Please set aside October 15-17, 2015 for the AOAO Annual Meeting at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO.  It will be a first class experience at a first class resort.  I hope you bring your family, meet up with old friends and have a great time.
